Dr. Evan Fox
has accepted the position of Director, Consultation/Liaison Psychiatry. A
graduate of The Institute of Living’s psychiatry residency program, Dr. Fox
completed a one-year fellowship in Consultation Psychiatry in the Hartford
Hospital/University of Connecticut program prior to joining the active staff
in July 1993. Since that time, he has worked in Consultation/Liaison
Psychiatry as well as providing services in the Palliative Medicine Consult
Service. He has also been an integral part of the psychiatry residency
program, providing teaching and supervision.
Dr. Carl Washburn, Jr.
has been appointed Director of the Psychosomatic Medicine Fellowship
program. Following completion of his psychiatry residency training in The
Institute of Living/University of Connecticut program, he also completed a
one-year consultation/liaison psychiatry fellowship at Hartford Hospital.
He has been a member of the active staff since October 2001, working on a
variety of services including the Adult Partial Hospital Program, Addiction
Recovery Services, the inpatient service and, in recent years, in
Consultation/Liaison Psychiatry.
Dr. David Pepper,
appointed Acting Medical Director of the Psychiatry Emergency Service in May
2008, has now accepted the position of Medical Director. Dr. Pepper joined
the active staff in July 2004, following completion of his psychiatry
residency in the University of Connecticut’s training program. Initially
employed on the IOL’s inpatient service, he has been working in
Consultation/Liaison Psychiatry for some time.
For the second consecutive year,
U.S. News & World Report has ranked Hartford Hospital's Institute of
Living among the nation’s top 25 psychiatric facilities. In its annual “Best
Hospitals” issue, due on newsstands Monday, July 14, the Institute is listed
among an elite group of the country’s most prestigious mental health
treatment centers. A total of 170 hospitals are listed as “Best Hospitals”
in 16 different categories, representing only about 3% of the nation’s
medical facilities, so this is a remarkable achievement indeed. The IOL’s
powerful combination of excellent patient care, world-class research
efforts, and a nationally recognized residency training program contributed
to this success.
