EXPERIENCE

10/00 – present: Senior Consultant – The Institute of Living/Hartford Hospital, Hartford, CT.
Provides clinical leadership for treatment services for people with schizophrenia treated in this multi-hospital system. Responsibilities include: facilitation of a consultation team developing best practice models for treatment of schizophrenia, design and implementation of several clinical programs (e.g. a family resource center, a high school based program for psychotic adolescents, etc.), clinical supervision, staff development and education, staff recruitment, fund development, marketing, grant writing, facilities design and outcome research.

10/95 – 10/00: Program Director, Schizophrenia Rehabilitation Center – The Institute of Living/Hartford Hospital, Hartford, CT.
Designed and implemented a novel ambulatory and residential rehabilitation program using cognitive skills training and other neuropsychological techniques to improve the vocational and social functioning of individuals with schizophrenia. Responsibilities include: program development, fund development, psychosocial research, staff supervision, budget management, marketing, clinical service, grant preparation and overall management of the program.

10/91 – 10/95: Principle Investigator/Research Psychologist – The Institute of Living, Hartford Hospital, Hartford, CT.
Developed a series of grant funded multi-hospital research projects investigating the neuropsychological functioning of people with schizophrenia. During the first several years, the study focused on identifying cognitive deficits in schizophrenia subtypes. Later the studies involved a treatment outcome protocol, which developed and evaluated the efficacy of attention skills training techniques. The long term goal of the project was to develop more effective rehabilitation programs by understanding the neuropsychological processes requisite for improvements in adaptive functioning Duties include: program design, neuropsychological assessment, diagnostic evaluations, data analysis, professional presentations, patient recruitment, supervision of graduate students and post doctoral fellows, grant preparations and coordination of all other aspects of the study.

5/90 – 6/93: Psychiatric Clinician/Group Therapy Program Coordinator – Lawrence & Memorial Hospital, New London, CT.
Clinical responsibilities included: Individual, group, couples, and family therapy, as well as psychological testing and admission assessments in a partial hospitalization program, multifamily support groups for both day treatment and inpatient units, men’s groups, wellness groups, and structured focus groups for prolonged mentally ill patients. Developed a support group for individuals with schizophrenia.
Administrative duties included: (1) the development and implementation of the group therapy component of the day treatment program, (2) supervision of doctoral and masters level clinicians, (3) Chairperson of the Quality Assurance Committee and coordinator of quality improvement efforts for the inpatient unit, adolescent and adult partial hospitalization programs, outpatient clinic, consultation service and emergency room crisis intervention service, (4) creation of a computerized management information system to monitor patient census, treatment planning, and staff time utilization, and (5) initiation and supervision of a volunteer program using local college students to provide recreation activities.

9/88 – 8/89: Internship in Clinical Psychology, Institute of Living, Hartford, CT. (APA Approved)
Internship training focused on the provision of individual, group, and family psychotherapy and assessment, as well as, neuropsychological evaluations, primarily with a young adult psychiatric inpatient population.

8/83 – 7/85: Administrative Assistant to the Hospital – The New York Hospital – Cornell Medical Center, Westchester Division, White Plains, N.Y.
Responsibilities involved a wide range of management functions reporting directly to the Administrator, including: the design/implementation of automated patient care, research and financial systems, the development of a hospital-wide plan for professional services, coordination of surveys/site visits by various regulatory agencies, and the coordination and planning of moving to a new outpatient facility.

12/80 – 8/81: Counselor/Therapist – Efficacy Research Institute, Braintree, MA.
Responsibilities: the development and implementation of behavior modification programs for residential clients with autism.
